My family has a deep history of depression. I have been through some dark times myself over the years and fortunately have learned to prioritize my mental wellness. I have a tattoo on my left wrist with symbols reminding me that God is greater than my ups and downs. So often this verse has reminded me to dwell on the beauty in this world, the good I see around me, the positive and the lovely. And so I paint.

It's no secret that the world can feel a bit scary; war, destruction, crime, poverty, pandemics, moral confusion and rebellion. I want my art to celebrate all that Phil 4:8 reminds me of, as a direct reprieve, if only for a minute, from the horrors that bombard us on every other visual outlet. Hence, happy art, joyful art.
